Ne-Yo On R&B Singers Doing Dance Music: ‘R&B Is Shallow & Hollow Now’

Ne-Yo Promo

“R&B as a genre is suffering [because] people has lost touch with what real emotion is. The thing that made these R&B records great was that they were heartfelt and real. Whatever the emotion was that was trying to be represented through the song, you felt it. I feel R&B is a lil shallow and hollow right now. That’s the reason people aren’t connected with it as they once did. Now, wWith this dance music craze, the emotion from the singer almost doesn’t have to be almost as prominent, because with dance music, it’s not about what’s being said, it’s about what the music is making you feel.”
“If people can figure out what it was that made the emotion real in R&B at that point, then R&B would make a comeback.”
Maoni Ne-Yo kuhusu R & B ni karibu kufanana na maoni  Luke James’ opinion on music as a whole–it’s lacking feeling.
Also, Jermaine Dupri penned a personal letter about the potential impact of Frank Ocean’s channel ORANGE. He hopes the success of the album enlightens music executives that R&B is still a prominent genre. Although Frank doesn’t identify himself as an R&B artist, his music is certainly emotive.
What do you think about Ne-Yo’s comments and R&B altogether?
