The Vaccines Question Rihanna’s Artistic Merit; “She’s Not A Real Artist” | News

Are the days of outspoken rockers back? The Vaccines – indie rock band based from the UK, more specifically Guitarists Freddie Cowan, in a recent interview questioned the artistic merit of worldwide pop star Rihanna. The Bajan singer, who is currently working on her 7th album, has definitely seen this sort of backlash from haters of her music over the years – but this is by far the most public proclamation yet. The outspoken guitarist also speaks on Coldplay collaborating with such an artist to remain “the biggest band on the face of the earth.”
In an interview with Digital Spy, the rock band – who would probably never be featured on ThisGoesIN besides this post (no offense to them, just not the music we throw on our radar), told the magazine in a bold quote:
“Rihanna isn’t an artist – she has 15 writers, 15 songwriters and 15 producers all fighting for space on her albums and she’s the face of it. I have nothing against it, but I don’t want to be associated with it.”
In terms of the major collaboration with Coldplay, which was performed earlier in the year at the 2012 Grammys, he criticized the major band for their decision in recruiting her for the record:
“I’ve never heard that song, but it’s Coldplay – they’ll do whatever they can to be the biggest band on earth, to be bigger than U2. They do it really well and they’ve never put out a bad album so hats off to them. I have nothing against those collaborations because I don’t feel you can judge people, but I don’t think I’ll ever be involved in something like that.. It needs artistic merit.”
Yikes. This will most likely spark an Instagram/Twitter barrage from Rihanna, filled with middle fingers and swear words. We’re down. The rockers album Come Of Age releases September 3rd.
